Songfacts |

With the score (piano & double bass, 5 pages) you also get the parts of the piano (4 pages) and double bass (2 pages). Georgia On My Mind was composed by the US musician Hoagy Carmichael, who first published 1930 a recording of this song. Afterwards there were some other interpretations who entered the charts. The interpretation of Louis Armstrong of 1933 is still famous, but at the time not very successful. Only in 1960 the song climbed till no1 of the US single charts in the interpretation of Ray Charles. Today the song is the inofficial hymn of the US state Georgia, although the original lyrics seem to be written not for the state, but for a woman called Georgia. Today there are countless cover versions, e.g. from Django Reinhardt, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Van Morrison, Hildegard Knef and Oscar Peterson, also available at jazzinotes: here. |
