Songfacts |
Herbert Grönemeyer is one of Germany’s most famous musicians. He was born in 1956 in Göttingen, but lived most of his life in Bochum. There he came to music through the theater. In 1976 he was appointed music director of Bochum’s famous theater and worked together with artists such as Peter Zadek and Pina Bausch. Although he had no dramatic training, he acted in many plays and films. His first two albums, Grönemeyer and Zwo, met with no commercial success (his debut album actually won a ‘golden lemon’ prize for the ugliest album cover). The breakthrough occurred only after he switched to EMI: since 1984, all of his albums have held first place in the German charts. The song Ich hab dich lieb originated from the already mentioned album Zwo, which in 1980 could brag of no success. The jazzinotes edition of this song is based on the 1995 live recording Herbert Grönemeyer - Life. There are in addition many later live recordings, one of which is also available from jazzinotes. |
