Songfacts |
New Orleans born pianist James Booker (1939 - 1983), in spite of many botched concerts, always somehow managed to come up with great successes such as Little Tune For Lefty, which appeared on the album Let's Make A Better World! recorded live in Leipzig. These strong fluctuations can be attributed to his drug problems, going back to a serious traffic accident in his childhood, for which he received morphine to counteract pain. He was in great demand as a studio musician for his whole life. He played with B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Ringo Starr, Doobie Brothers, Huey Smith and Lionel Hampton, among others. But his solo career was always faltering due to his drug problems, which also lead to his trademark eye-patch with star (caused by an infection through a dirty needle), and to his early death. |
