WHAT ARE NOTE-FOR-NOTE EDITIONS?

Note-for-Note means that the sheet music will correspond note-for-note to the original recording. These original recordings are in most cases available to listen to free of charge directly on the jazzinotes website through the video player on the article page: beyond the cover.

HOW ARE NOTE-FOR-NOTE EDITIONS USED?

With a Note-for-Note edition, you can, so to speak, peek over the shoulders of your great musical role models. This shouldn’t however prevent you from coming up with your own interpretation of the song. As musical creativity always consists of two sides:

1. Learning musical means of expression, comparable to learning the vocabulary and grammar of a language.

2. Combining these means of expression, for example combining vocabulary and grammar to create your own unique meaning.

Note-for-Note editions can be helpful to you in point 1, because as the saying goes, you can’t make something out of nothing. Note-for-Note editions can help you master the tricks of the trade, so to speak.
