Songfacts:
The original recording is from the YouTube video "Pentatonix - My Favorite Things (Official Video)"
My Favorite Things is part of the 1959 musical and movie The Sound of Music. The song consists of a simple melody played in quarter notes in a fast waltz tempo, in which many ‘favorite things’ are listed.
The song is popular mainly in the English speaking world (and not at all in Austria, where the story takes place). It has become a jazz standard through jazz greats such as Dave Brubeck and especially John Coltrane (in his 1960 album My Favorite Things). Coltrane’s highly modified version has become one of his trademark melodies, which he played in almost all of his performances. Later interpreters of this song include, among others, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Al Jarrau and Maria João. The Björk a capella version has also appeared in the movie Dancer in the Dark (Lars von Trier).
