Songfacts:

Clandestino is the title track (and opening track) of Manu Chao's 1998 album of the same name. Literally translated, "clandestino" means "secret", referring to a person without papers. The song describes his life between Ceuta (the Spanish enclave in North Africa) and Gibraltar. Both the single and the album were chart successes not only in Europe, but especially in Central and South America. The song "Clandestino" has since been covered countless times. jazzinotes also offers sheet music for some of these interpretations.
Here you find the version for male vocals.

Manu Chao was born on June 21, 1961, in Paris. He is the eldest son of the refugee couple Ramon Cháo and Felisa Ortega from Spain/Basque Country. He founded the band Mano negra with his younger brother, among others. The two albums of his later solo career, "Clandestino" and "Proxima Estación: Esperanza," both achieved platinum status.
