Songfacts:

The jazzinotes edition of the Christmas carol "Maria durch ein 'Dornwald ging" is based closely on the original recording with the singer Helene Fischer and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. The level of difficulty of the piano accompaniment is a little below medium. The vocals are transcribed note-for-note.

Pay attention: At jazzinotes you also fin a simplified version and an orchestra/ensemble version.

Today's Christmas carol Maria durch ein' Dornwald ging (Maria Went Through A Thorn Forest) is originally a pilgrimage song. Its origin is controversial. The oldest copy dates from 1850. But it is probably much older, it may have been made as early as the 16th century. The jazzinotes arrangement, which closely follows the original recording with Helene Fischer, uses romantic harmony, but, as was common in the Renaissance, sometimes avoids the third, especially in the final chords of the stanzas.
